A Guide to Wood Science
The study of wood as a renewable material and organic material is what is known as wood science. Wood technology is now the way the tools are utilized in the processes of wood preservation. Wood is treated as a material in direct comparison with other products. The wood is checked against the other materials properties, performances, value, and work-ability. The many Merits of timber and these technologies improve wood to be superior over other products. Some of these advantages include wood being a versatile material that can be used in a wide range of products. Wood is renewable, and this makes it more precious. The other merit is that a part of the harvested material is at the same time used as energy to produce the product.
Protection of wooden structure and products is a must if you want to keep the good looks in place. The biggest threat to wood being moisture and insects has to be kept away from the wood. The moisture courses the timber to decay and the insects eat through the wood. There are many ways timber is treated among them being the ACQ in other words alkaline copper Quaternary. This is a copper-based preservative that is applied to the wood for protection. As effective as this preservative, it has some downside to its use. It has been seen corroding most metals for example aluminum in less than six months of its application. The saturation level of any treatment will depend on where the wood is going to be used and the species of the wood. Timber being used around a water body will be dipped in a more saturated fluid than that being used above ground.
Another wood treating method that is fast being accepted is the use of copper metal. This method is being accepted fast because is friendly to wooden fasteners. An alternative name to be given to this method is the micronized copper wood preservative method. The copper metal is applied to the wood as small microscopic particles injected into the wood at high pressure. The difference between this method and the other copper-based methods is that the copper is used as a metal rather than a dissolved material. This process is highly effective and the wood properties and heightened. The timber treated in this way is used in both outdoor and indoor frames that last very long.
Termites cannot eat through timber treated through this method. It is not corrosive to metals used in together with the product. Extensive research over a period of 10 years has proven the effectiveness of this science as one of the best wood preservation methods.
